Portales marca la primera exposición individual de la artista María Fernanda Soltero y la culminación de seis años de reconstrucción silenciosa de su práctica artística tras regresar a Puerto Rico. A través de una serie de obras en fibra y técnica mixta, la exposición explora la relación entre la memoria, la repetición y el tiempo.

Trabajando desde la intuición y el tacto, la artista transforma recuerdos y fragmentos de fotografías en abstracciones táctiles de color y forma. Cada pieza funciona como un portal: una apertura entre la historia personal y la presencia material. Portales refleja un proceso de creación pausado y deliberado, entrelazando emoción, textura y estructura en un lenguaje visual saturado de color. 

“Estas obras crecieron despacio, acompañándome en los cambios que ha tomado mi vida en estos últimos años,” comenta la artista. “Capturan memorias, afectos y el paso de las estaciones a través de impresiones de color, como si cada hilo y cada tono guardaran un fragmento de memoria.”

La exposición invita al espectador a reflexionar sobre el color como contenedor de recuerdos y la materia como huella persistente de lo vivido en el tiempo.

Portales marks the first solo exhibition of artist María Fernanda Soltero and the culmination of six years of quiet reconstruction of her artistic practice upon returning to Puerto Rico. Through a series of fiber-based and mixed media works, the exhibition explores the relationship between memory, repetition, and time.

Working through intuition and touch, the artist transforms memories and fragments of photographs into tactile abstractions of color and form. Each piece functions as a portal: an opening between personal history and material presence. Portales reflects a slow and deliberate creative process, interweaving emotion, texture, and structure into a visual language saturated with color.

“These works grew slowly, being my companions through the many changes my life has taken in recent years,” the artist notes. “They capture memories, affections, and the passage of the seasons through impressions of color, as if each thread and hue were holding a fragment of memory.”

The exhibition invites viewers to reflect on color as a vessel of memory and on material as a persisting imprint of lived experience over time.
